POPA LAUNCHES FIRST BOOK OF POETRY

Allan C. Popa launched his first book of poetry in Filipino at the big sky mind gallery, 66-B Doña Juna Rodriguez St., New Manila, Quezon City, last March 31, 2000.

The book, Hunos, is published by Artista Publications and contains forty poems, some of which have appeared in Mantala, Lagda, Philippines FREE PRESS, Sunday Inquirer Magazine, Mirror Weekly Magazine, Philippine Collegian, and the Aklat Likhaan ng Tula at Maikling Kuwento (1996, 1997 and 1998).

Popa is a graduate of the Creative Writing program in Filipino of the University of the Philippines and writes in Filipino, English, and Bikol. He was a fellow for poetry in the UP National Writers Workshop, the Dumagete National Writers Workshop, and the Iligan National Writers Workshop. Recently, Popa was one of the winners in the poetry category of the 1998-1999 Philippines FREE PRESS Literary Awards and the 2000 Amelia Lapena
Bonofacio Literary Contest.

BIKOL POET LAUNCHES 
"MAYNILA: Libro ng Pobya"

Jaime Jesus Borlagdan released his collection of poems in Filipino titled "MAYNILA: Libro ng Pobya" on July 14, 2000. The event was held at Big Sky Mind located at # 66B Dona Juana Rodriguez St. New Manila QC (the road between McDonalds and BPI), and a program at 9 PM of acoustic performances as well as poetry readings will liven up the night. 

Borlagdan is a fixture of the experimental lit group the Conclave Workshop, a member of UP Quill and the guitarist of performance poetry group Talula Craft. Born in Albay his poetry has its roots in the transplantation of culture and the permutations of discovery. "Libro ng Pobya" is his first book.
